About Kal
A little bit of background on Kal Flynn…
From school age to adulthood, I’ve always been passionate about art, history and working with vulnerable people in the community, especially those with disabilities. I was fortunate to study Illustration at Westminster University and to complete my first year of a post graduate degree, at St Martins School of Art. My love of colour was born at University, learning how to mix the colours you see was a real eye opener and led to my love of painting en plein air. This was pivotal in shaping me as an ‘Observational Colourist’ artist. My Indian heritage also plays such an important part in my art, the rich colours, patterns and liveliness of my culture have influenced what I see, how I interpret it and translate this onto canvas. Having spent many years experimenting and using colour, my work is fluid, moving from close observation to almost abstract and back again.

‘A Step in Time’ was born from my love of Wrest Park, Bedfordshire and was held at the Bunyan Gallery, June 2023. I’m a member of English Heritage and visit Wrest Park regularly. Its a real pleasure to paint there and I’m never lost for inspiration, especially with the ever changing seasons. The exhibition paid homage to the many different vistas, historical buildings and horticulture to be found at Wrest Park. The paintings and silkscreens reflect how I see Wrest Park, through the eyes of an Observational Colourist. I have exhibited with many other artists, at Roy’s Art Fair, 28th September to 1st October 2023, at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, London, it was quite something seeing so many artists and their work all exhibiting together. In the past I have exhibited in London and Hertfordshire.
